Warner Bros. Closes Three Studios, Cancels Games Amidst Structural Changes

Warner Bros is closing three of their gaming studios: Monolith Productions, the studio behind the cancelled Wonder Woman title, amongst others. Not exceedingly unexpected, yet still a disappointment. It appears that Warner Bros. is zeroing in on its cash cow franchises: Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC (predominantly Batman), and Game of Thrones. This insight comes via a Bloomberg report.

The publisher’s focus on these franchises was established in 2024 when their intention to expand free-to-play live service games became apparent as per reports.

Kotaku received an official statement from Warner Bros asserting the closure of Monolith Productions, Player First Games (behind the soon-to-be-defunct MultiVersus), and Warner Bros. Games San Diego as a strategic course correction. The statement also made it clear that,it does not reflect the talent these teams consist of.

The press release additionally stated that the development of the “Wonder Woman videogame will not move forward”. They’d looked forward to giving “players and fans the highest quality experience possible for the iconic character”, but it doesn’t align with their current strategic priorities.
