Verse Discontinuation Surprises Forgotten Users

Capcom, following announcement of their first 9 months fiscal 2024 financial outcomes, is back in news shedding light on shutdown of their multiplayer Resident Evil version, Resident Evil Re:Verse. Despite the financials illustrating a bleak picture with a 33% drop in revenue and more than a 16% decline in sales, the company had anticipated such outcomes considering an expected large-scale last quarter boosted by February release of Monster Hunter Wilds.

Capcom is now paring down their gallery redirecting focus toward the future direction of the Resident Evil series named as a “turning point” by Capcom. The multiplayer edition Resident Evil Re:Verse is scheduled for shutdown on all interfaces on June 29. All pertinent DLCs will be taken down from digital outlets and halted from sales post-March 3. Many perhaps overlooked this game, including me, being that it came complimentary with my Resident Evil Village purchase made in 2021.

Unfortunately, those who purchased the game or any of its DLC will not be eligible for refunds.

Even though Re:Verse was conceptualised as a commemoration for 25 years of Resident Evil, audiences were less than impressed. It still endures a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam. Capcom, maintains a stance that it fulfilled its commemorative role “admirably.”

The game will be unplayable post-shutdown as there are no plans for offline mode. Hence, it’s not advisable to rush shopping for an economic copy if not owned as the game shutdown is imminent.
