Vanguard System Now Available in League of Legends

Riot Games declared the arrival of its disputed anti-cheat system to League of Legends. The Vanguard system was already in use in VALORANT has now been introduced to fight cheats in LoL.

Riot is aware of the controversy that surrounds the system, due to the necessity for its installation and constant activation during gameplay. Intent on greater transparency, Riot took the initiative to explain how the cheats function.

For LoL, the game is simulated on the server, with client being only held responsible for sending “requests.” This “authoritarian” model is determined by the server’s rules and guidelines.

The model ensures that LoL is not extensively exploited. This is why most cheaters make use of automated commands via scripts. These scripts are executed on the client’s side and allow for automatic actions in response to events.

Enter: anti-cheat systems like Vanguard, with preventive and detection layers. The goal is to negate as many types of cheat possible and to act as quickly as possible.

Riot further clarified that The Vanguard system does not “run continually”. The system initiates with the device, yet there are no running processes or network connections until a game from Riot is opened.

Upon opening LoL, the Vanguard touches base with the driver to confirm everything is working correctly. As long as no issues are found, you receive a legitimate anticheat session and can connect to the server. Post that, the client instructions permit functionality in the driver to verify and ensure nothing is interfering with the server’s processes in LoL. It’s possible to switch off the driver whenever desired, but a device restart is required to restore the integrity of the trust chain prior to gameplay.

Riot has high hopes that the Vanguard will significantly minimize the quantity of cheaters in LoL.

Recently, Riot Games unveiled the first details of the imminent updates on League of Legends. The MOBA is slated to reclaim the Arena and introduce a freshPvE mode, reminiscent of survivor bullet heaven.

The new PvE mode will borrow inspiration from games like Vampire Survivors, instructing players to battle against enemy hordes. The new mode can either be played individually or with friends.
