Do you recall the rumor we mentioned in May about Valve potentially crafting their own iteration of Overwatch, dubbed “Deadlock”? During that time, people were sharing images of the unannounced game and it was claimed that YouTubers already had access under NDAs.
Recent news indicates that the game already has a substantial player base along with a committed subreddit. As per a report on VG247 posted a day ago, the game boasted over 18,000 players concurrently playing at the time of the update. The article clarified that this was a growth of 578% compared to the previous month.
As of today, the player count has made another leap forward, reaching over 23,000 (at the time of writing this). This count is impressive, especially for a game yet to be officially declared. However, if the growth rate continues, an official announcement can be expected shortly.
As a matter of fact, the announcement may just be around the corner. A mention on the Deadlock subreddit reads that Valve had procured various “playdeadlock” domains, including those for forums, beta, and a preview. Naturally, we’re on the lookout for more.
