Star Wars: Outlaws’ release has been challenging, with the reception and sales resulting in a delay of the latest Assassin’s Creed and a significant drop in the company’s financial position. Over the past month, there have been reports of Ubisoft’s shooter XDefiant being urged to increase its player base by the third season or face a decrease in support. The company addressed these allegations, saying XDefiant isn’t “on its last legs,” but they didn’t dispute the specific reference to the “Season 3” deadline.
In a recent Trading Call, Ubisoft admitted that XDefiant hasn’t lived up to expectations. The Star Wars: Outlaws response was the major contributor to a 30% decrease in the company’s second-quarter bookings outlook, but XDefiant was briefly touched upon as well.
“The sales for Star Wars Outlaws were quieter than anticipated. We also fell short of expectations with XDefiant, for which we’ll elaborate more at October’s end,” stated Chief Executive Officer Yves Guillmot.
This news comes in spite of recent leaks suggesting that XDefiant may be introducing several new game formats.
