Effective August 31, all 32-bit servers in The Lord of the Rings Online will be permanently shut down.
This action represents a significant advancement in the MMORPG’s technological framework. The developers have been progressively implementing 64-bit game worlds, which provide greater stability and modern features, along with complimentary character transfers to these upgraded servers. Players are required to transfer their characters, Kinships, and Shared Items by 11:59 PM Eastern (GMT) on August 31; after this deadline, the 32-bit worlds will be inaccessible and transfers will temporarily cease.
These worlds will later reopen as “dark worlds” for a limited two-year timeframe to permit transfers, but players will be unable to log in, and no specific timeline for this process has been provided. Therefore, timely transfers are crucial.
Targeted destination servers include Sting, Glamdring, and Peregrin (RP) in the U.S., as well as Grond, Orcrist, and Meriadoc (RP) in the EU. Kinship leaders should either abandon or sell their Kinship housing prior to the closure date; character creation on 32-bit servers will be disabled starting July 30. Players from previously shut “dark worlds” can also transfer to 64-bit servers until August 31, but these transfers are final, and Customer Support will not assist with any lost items or characters.
Additionally, the legacy read-only forums at forums-old.lotro.com will be permanently closed on August 31. If you were a participant, make sure to save any important content before then.
Moreover, the Treebeard Legendary World will reach its ultimate level cap of 130 on June 18.
