For an MMORPG that’s been active for 28 years maintaining its four original classes, it would seem unlikely that they’d introduce a fresh class. Certainly, if Tibia was keen on adding a unique “vocation,” wouldn’t they have done that by now?
You might assume so, however, you’d be mistaken. Later this month, players of Tibia can look forward to trialing the new class, Monk. Whilst integrating a new class to the existent Paladin, Knight, Druid and Sorcerer could be perceived as high-risk, CipSoft, developers of Tibia, are acutely aware of its potential impact. In a
press statement, Product Manager Niadus conceded the move as “too complex and too risky,” but affirmed “the risk began to seem worth taking and a logical progression for the game.”
The Monk will largely be a melee fighter, with slight aspects of support and healing capacities. The melee decision was straightforward once class addition was agreed upon due to the significant presence of ranged combat in the MMO. The inclusion of healing stemmed from the realization of a large number of Paladins and Druids leaning towards the tanking Paladin role, hence the necessity for additional healing.
To understand more about the conception of the Monk, the Tibia team has shared their entire journey towards its creation in their post, giving you a peek into their perspective.
The trial phase for the Monk is set to begin in late February, with an expected launch date in the second quarter.
