This is the Beginning of the End for Tower of Fantasy…

The open world MMORPG Tower of Fantasy will undergo significant changes in 2025. Level Infinite announced that the game’s publishing, operation, and management rights will be transferred to the parent company Perfect World Games, which also owns Hotta Studio, as of February 23, 2025. Moreover, from version 4.5, the game will no longer feature English and Japanese voiceovers for male and female protagonists.

Successful in China, but not so much in the rest of the world

This could be the beginning of the end for the game, regardless of significant investments in the west, it did not reach the expected success that the Chinese version achieved.

Tower of Fantasy was a big success in China in its early years, achieving 2 billion R$ in revenue. The same was expected for the West, and Hotta (developer) and Tencent (publisher) made significant investments in the game with a significant marketing campaign and voiceovers (including Brazilian), but it did not take off.

End of voiceovers and adjustment in publication plans

For those unfamiliar, Tower of Fantasy is an open world MMORPG set on planet Aida, in a post-apocalyptic future with strong anime inspirations.

The game combines real-time combat, free character development and a rich narrative in a shared world. Released globally in August 2022, the title quickly gathered a loyal player base.

Level Infinite (Tencent) explained that the end of the protagonists’ voiceovers is part of the strategic changes in the game’s publication. However, they assured that dialogues from versions prior to 4.5 will be preserved, allowing players to continue enjoying the already released content.

Transition Schedule

The team outlined the publisher transition schedule and the steps players will need to take to transfer their accounts and game data. Here are the key dates:

• December 24, 2024: Authorization and account transfer page will open with the update to version 4.5.
• December 24, 2024 to February 23, 2025: Period to authorize data transfer or modify the decision.
• February 14, 2025: Transition of distribution rights in application stores, with in-game transaction services deactivated.
• February 23, 2025: Level Infinite servers will officially shut down, and Perfect World Games will announce the new servers’ opening date.
• February 23 to April 24, 2025: Extended deadline to complete data transfer.
• April 24, 2025: Closure of the authorization and transfer page.
• April 30, 2025: Data that have not been transferred or authorized will be permanently deleted.

The transition marks a new phase for Tower of Fantasy, with Perfect World Games taking full control of operations and promising to continue expanding the game universe. Despite the end of English and Japanese voiceovers for the protagonists, the team ensures they are committed to delivering a quality experience to the players.
