Those who have been keeping an eye on Sean Murray’s social media in recent days might have suspected an incoming update regarding gas giants for the perpetual multiplayer sandbox No Man’s Sky. This morning, Hello Games confirmed these suspicions, announcing update 5.5, also known as Worlds Part II, which forms the second part of the Worlds update that was originally launched in 2024.
In this 5.50 update called Worlds Part II, the universe is transformed with new interactions, hellscapes, and planets,” says the studio. “Find your way around the historic ruins, swirling gas giants and ocean worlds, and gaze upon bizarre creatures, diverse environments, and dramatic terrain changes. With new gameplay additions, significant enhancements in lighting and water rendering, and much more.”
The full patch notes reveal the update’s comprehensive features: new landscapes, a new star category, underwater exploration, improved inventory organization, a fresh mission, aggressive jellyfish and squid bosses, achievement for capturing fish, new deadly threats, an optional “abandoned” mode, upgraded mod control, introduction of icy and jungle biomes, a new food market and many other additions.
“Vast gas planets have emerged in the cosmos, each bringing its distinct environments and resources. Each one is unique in terms of its enormous atmospheric pressure, immense gravity and unpredictable weather, and is accompanied by a set of moons. A new type of star has appeared across the universe. Purple-class solar systems are home to numerous new planets just waiting to be discovered. Embark on an epic new journey to decode these enigmatic fragments of reality for the Autophage.”
No Man’s Sky updates, as always, are free of cost for those who own the game.
