Almost two decades after its initial 2005 release, the Hindu-mythology themed MMORPG, Tantra Online, has resurfaced on Steam as Kathana. While HanbitSoft of South Korea originally developed Tantra Online, GameOlic, based in Uruguay, is managing this new iteration. Considering the age of the original game and the limited support it received from its original developer, it remains uncertain whether this ‘new version’ is merely another private server making its way to a larger audience.
Tantra Online carved out a dedicated fan base in the mid-2000s with its eight-class system and large-scale player-versus-player battles, key features of Korean free-to-play MMOs during that period.
