Star Wars: The Old Republic fans were understandably anxious when it was revealed last year that development of the iconic MMORPG would transfer from BioWare to Broadsword, a company renowned for its upkeep of Dark Age of Camelot and Ultima Online, rather than MMO development. Despite its limited track record in MMO realm, Broadsword has shown its capability by introducing fresh elements to the latter.
Since the transition, SWTOR welcomed the inclusion of Date Night Companions and Game Updates 7.5 and 7.6. The freshest update brought a new Operation Boss and “Dynamic Encounters” to the MMO’s world. Meanwhile, Executive Producer Keith Kanneg ruminated on these new elements in his quarterly address to fans as the year draws to a close.
The upcoming story content has been rescheduled for the early part of the next year, indicating that SWTOR’s modernisation of areas and characters is just the beginning. Another notable debut in 2024 was a Mac launcher, which was recently launched for open beta testing.
While the storyline has seen criticism for being deficient in recent patches, players are hopeful that it would be bolstered next year. Nonetheless, Kanneg also provides a peek at what’s next for the game, albeit censored.
“We are thrilled to share our future plans which include a new [redacted] and some new [redacted], a continuation of our story, and a slew of other updates. Let us not forget the eagerly-awaited Star Wars Celebration 2025 is around the corner, and like every Star Wars fan, I am equally thrilled for what next year brings,” reads the post.
This potentially signals good news for players still apprehensive about the future of this MMORPG.
