The Blue Protocol was originally closed for its PC version in early 2025 following Bandai Namco’s difficulties with keeping users and monetizing. However, Tencent has come forward to resurrect the game as Blue Protocol: Star Resonance – This updated version makes its debut on mobile with a PC client. Aiming for a 2025 release in English-speaking countries on Steam and the Epic Games Store, this game facilitates cross-play between mobile and PC.
The deal for the mobile variant of the game seems to have been secured with Tencent even before the PC version was phased out, and the closure of the PC variant does not seem to hinder Tencent in their venture.
Tencent is launching their version while maintaining the game’s fundamental anime MMORPG element, but with some key alterations:
- Mobile-PC Cross-Platform Play: Allows for continuous progress on any device.
- Enhanced Customization: Greater scope for player character personalization than in the original game.
- Dynamic Fight Mechanics: Designed with class builds, skill combinations, and gear affinities for iterative upgrades in mind.
- Social Features: Guilds, trade, and live events designed to improve multiplayer interaction.
The original Blue Protocol game set up by Bandai Namco received positive feedback due to its visuals and combat, but was unsuccessful due to the lack of endgame content and unfavorable monetization. Star Resonance plans to overcome these issues, but only time will tell if they are successful in their endeavor.
Though an exact release date is yet to be determined, the 2025 window hints at a possible beta phase later in the year. For aficionados of the original game, under Tencent’s guidance, Star Resonance provides a second opportunity to explore the vibrant world of Blue Protocol.
