Sea of Thieves will break up seasonal content releases in the interest of game stability

Sea of Thieves Reveals September 18 Heist Event, FOV Adjustments, and Upgraded Audio Features

Sea of Thieves fortress battle scene

In Sea of Thieves, piracy typically means swashbuckling adventures for ghostly relics or golden chests. But on Thursday, September 18th, players will chase a surprising new prize: stealing a painting from Flameheart, the fiery skeletal pirate lord. While art theft sounds mundane, fighting a flaming undead corsair keeps the fantasy intact.

Detailed in Rare Ltd’s latest video, the Smugglers’ Heist event tasks crews with infiltrating the Royal Crest Fortress. Teams must battle waves of skeletons, seize the artwork, and deliver it to the Smugglers’ League—all while fending off rival pirates eager to claim the treasure and its exclusive rewards.

Beyond the heist, the September 18th update introduces a long-awaited feature: adjustable field-of-view settings, letting players expand their view from 90° to 110°. The patch also adds new cosmetics to in-game outposts and the premium shop.

Audio upgrades arrive too, as Sea of Thieves integrates Embody Immerse spatial audio. This free enhancement offers a richer soundscape for compatible headphones. For $20, players can also purchase a personalized audio pack tailored to their ear shape—a niche but intriguing option for audiophiles.
