Rockstar Accused of Union Busting After Firing Union Discord Workers

Grand Theft Auto 6

Layoffs in the gaming industry often raise concerns, especially after recent years have
seen companies firing employees for questionable reasons. The situation is no different
with Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar Games, which recently terminated over 30
employees across its UK and Canadian studios. This move has drawn criticism, with
a union accusing the company of union-busting</a >, prompting Rockstar to defend its actions.

According to Alex Marshall, president of the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain
(IWGB), the firings specifically targeted members of a private trade union Discord group who
were either signed up for IWGB membership or were considering joining.

Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company</a >, claims the terminations were due to “gross misconduct, and for no other reason.” However,
Marshall refutes this, calling the firings “one of the most blatant and ruthless acts of
union busting in the history of the games industry” and a “flagrant contempt for the law.”
