Outriders Developer People Can Fly Cancels One Project, Scales Another Back, And Lays Off Over 120

Outriders Developer Cancels Project, Cuts Another and Lays off 120+ Staff

In April 2021, the loot-shooter game Outriders was launched with Square Enix sponsoring the developers, People Can Fly. Despite it being more than a year since the game’s release, People Can Fly revealed they have yet to receive any profits as Square Enix’s contract ensured they recouped their investment first.

The game was updated and had the “Worldslayer” expansion included, but this didn’t prevent the company from resorting to layoffs.

Fast forward to the present, it’s unfortunate that People Can Fly has been forced to let go of over 120 staff members due to “external market pressures.” The notice came from the developer’s X account, and also included the cancellation of Project Victoria and the downsizing of Project Bitfrost, two undisclosed projects the firm had been working on.

It’s regrettable that these layoffs are occurring at all, more so during the holiday season. The details on how laid-off employees will be aided by the company, referred to as “supported” with “resources and assistance”, are yet to be disclosed.

We sincerely hope that those who have been affected re-establish themselves swiftly.
