A Lawsuit From Nintendo Didn't Stop Palworld From Ninja Launching On The PS5 Just Now

Nintendo’s Lawsuit Couldn’t Prevent Palworld’s PS5 Launch

Being on the receiving end of a lawsuit from Nintendo is never considered as “favourable” news. Regardless of one’s opinion on whether the corporation has a case or not, the task of confronting their legal team (and the substantial financial backing they have) is undeniably intimidating. Recently, Pocketpair became another company to receive legal documents from Nintendo, accusing their game—a href=”https://www.mmobomb.com/topic/palworld” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>Palworld—as infringing a number of Nintendo’s existing patents.

Pocketpair initially appeared unsure about the exact patents they have supposedly violated; however, it could be linked to a character throwing an item to capture a creature in a game. While the USA is yet to grant this patent, it has however been approved in Japan where the lawsuit has been filed. Despite this, the impending lawsuit did not deter the Pocketpair team from releasing their creature-training game for Sony’s PlayStation 5 during a State of Play live-stream.

Indeed, in a typical stealth launch manner, Palworld revealed a fresh trailer (see below) at Sony’s State of Play event, ending with a classic “out now” tag. If you’ve been eager to experience some creature-based action on the PS5, now may be your chance… given the unpredictability of the situation.

This follows Pocketpair securing a contractual agreement with Sony to expand their IP beyond the realm of gaming.

At the time of writing this article, the PS Storefront is yet to list the game; however, we anticipate that it will be made available shortly.
