Dune: Awakening Launches May 20, Shows off Dynamic Desert Environments in New Trailer

New Trailer of Dune: Awakening Reveals Dynamic Desert Environments, Set to Launch on May 20

The upcoming open-world MMO survival game, Dune: Awakening by Funcom, is set to release on May 20, 2025, featuring the vast landscape of Arrakis. A newly released video, Exploring Arrakis – Secrets of the Desert, offers a glimpse of the changing terrains and survival mechanics inspired by Frank Herbert’s Dune universe and films from Legendary Entertainment.

The game, Dune Awakening, notably describes itself as an MMO, much unlike similar survival games such as Rust and Conan Exiles. It is priced at $49.99 for its launch, and is not free to play.

Main Features of Dune Awakening

  • Dynamic Deep Desert: This end-game area introduces Coriolis storms altering the landscape, revealing new resources and covering old landmarks. Post-storm, players can explore and vend maps of the changed zones through the in-game Exchange.
  • Exploration Tools:
    • Personal Scanner: Discovers nearby resources.
    • Survey Probes: Can be stationed from high points to map wider areas, earmarking interesting locations like shipwrecks and ecology labs.
  • Environmental Diversity: Arrakis features multiple biomes including rocky plateaus and concealed caves, in addition to sand dunes.

Preparation Before Launch

The Character Creator & Benchmark Mode can currently be downloaded on Steam to allow players to personalize their character and fine-tune their game performance prior to the launch. Participators will get a unique Frameblade Knife skin.

Upcoming Information

Expect more details about the sandbox battle system of the game in an upcoming video, which will explain how players participate in warfare across the shifting desert sands.
