Bungie has unveiled more details about The Edge of Fate, the highly anticipated Destiny 2 expansion set to launch on July 15.
This free-to-play shooter update marks the start of the Year of Prophecy and introduces a new multi-year storyline called the Fate Saga. A recent Developer Insights video revealed the raid’s name: The Desert Perpetual, which will go live on July 19 with Contest Mode active. This launch will see a global World First Race, offering exclusive belts and in-game recognition to the first fireteam that completes the raid and accesses the final chest. More information on Contest Mode and power requirements will be shared in next week’s This Week in Destiny.
The pre-launch update Brief 002 has introduced a new Eliksni enemy: the Corsair. These aerial foes employ fungal-powered jetpacks and scatter-pistols for swift, evasive hit-and-run tactics. Their main weakness lies in the ignition coils of their jetpacks.
This season’s Artifact, Implement of Curiosity, brings various build enhancements, especially for the Solar, Strand, and Stasis subclasses. Strand-specific mods like Threaded Blast and Tangled Web provide fresh offensive capabilities, while high-caliber Column 5 mods such as Radiant Shrapnel and Frigid Glare enhance crowd control. The Artifact also offers Champion countermeasures against Barrier, Overload, and Unstoppable foes. Elemental pickups now foster better synergy with subclass mechanics, enabling greater personalization in players’ builds.
Significant updates are also coming to gameplay systems. Armor Mods have been revamped to align with a newly implemented Ammo Meter system. Mods associated with ammunition—like Finders, Generators, and Scavengers—have been appropriately modified, while Scout and Reserves mods are being phased out. The Mobility stat is being eliminated and will be replaced by Enhanced Athletics, a mod providing versatile movement bonuses. Additionally, Font mods are being rebalanced to prevent overcentralization within the updated Armor 3.0 system.
