In the near future, recognizable members from the Star Trek Online and Neverwinter communities will no longer be a part of the MMORPG teams. Both MMORPGs are set to experience layoffs this month as stated in a previous update, while the Embracer Group is in the process of transitioning control of the video games to DECA.
Surprisingly, no official announcements of these developments were made either on the websites of Star Trek Online or Neverwinter. The topic was discussed on the forums and briefly mentioned in one of the streaming sessions, but no official post was drafted.
However, an official acknowledgement has finally been made on the Neverwinter website today. We can presumably expect a similar announcement on the Star Trek Online site soon.
The team wants players to be assured that the MMO games are not going to be abandoned. They state, “Even though we’ve recently faced challenges within our team, one thing we want to make clear is that these modifications have not disrupted our production schedule or the standard of content we strive to deliver. We remain devoted to providing the best experience possible for our players.”
Further details specific to Neverwinter have been shared in the post, announcing the imminent arrival of Module 30, with Module 31 and 32 currently in production. We can expect more details on these in the early part of the coming year.
However, this seems to be a rather generic response from the developers. A similar statement was given when Trion Worlds was taken over by gamigo. But was it a successful transition for Rift?
While we’re discussing different gaming entities, it still begs the question, are Neverwinter and Star Trek Online in safe hands? What’s your opinion on what the future holds for these games?
