You might recall the challenges that gaming corporations faced in 2022 while seeking to disentangle themselves from business ties in Russia. Amidst global warfare, sanctions, and more, these companies were keen to exit the Russian market. Notably, Daybreak Games created some confusion before this by making peculiar statements about its former owners.
MY.GAMES was caught up in these maneuverings as well. The company was acquired by LETA Capital in 2022, a venture capital firm run by Alexander Chachava. Following this, a restructuring took place leading to the formation of a new company, Astrum Entertainment. This allowed MY.GAMES to declare that they were not earning revenue in Russia, while Astrum handled the Russian gaming operations. Interestingly, Chachava also played a role in the creation of Astrum, indicating a shared ownership between MY.GAMES and Astrum.
Then we have Innova. This Russian-based gaming publisher operates the 4game platform and handles EU/CIS versions of Lineage II and Ragnarok Online, among others. They were bought by EG7 in 2021, who then purchased Daybreak Games a month later.
Are you keeping up? Excellent.
As of today, MY.GAMES has declared that it will discontinue publishing the god-themed Skyforge, an MMORPG developed by The Allods Team. Instead, Innova will assume the publishing responsibilities later this year, though specifics are yet to be announced. This follows MY.GAMES’ earlier decision to cease publishing Conqueror’s Blade this year. According to the announcement, player progress will be preserved, and more details will follow. “Rest assured that your data and progress are safe and gameplay can resume from where you left off once the change in publisher is finalized,” the statement reads.
This news has not been well received in the game’s Discord community, with players indicating they don’t want to retain MY.GAMES’ “established quality level”. The post does suggest that Skyforge players can look forward to “new adventures, challenges, battles, and discoveries”, however, it remains unclear whether this suggests new content or is simply standard PR language. More likely, it is the latter.
We have put some inquiries to Innova about this takeover and will update this post if we receive a response. Specifically, we are interested to know whether Skyforge will transition to the 4game platform operated by Innova, if the game will continue to be accessible through Steam, and if The Allods Team will remain involved in development or if this implies a switch to maintenance mode for the game.
Updates will be posted as we receive them.
