Did you truly think Microsoft would spend a whopping $72 billion on Activision Blizzard and then let the gaming giant operate without any interference? We’re hardly taken aback by the news that Microsoft is restructuring its costly new acquisition, forming a smaller team focused on developing “AA games” within Blizzard’s existing franchises.
As reported by Windows Central, this team largely consists of former King developers. Their job is to produce additional titles based on existing IPs, including Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, Overwatch and others.
This team will be working on smaller-budget, lower-risk projects intended to balance out the larger costs and risks associated with major game development. There are no project announcements at this time, and Microsoft has not yet officially commented on the establishment of this AA-tier team.
