Marvel Rivals is stepping up its game balance efforts as the roster of heroes continues to grow rapidly. With the free-to-play hero shooter aiming to introduce a new character every month, maintaining balance across roles has become a significant challenge. While the developers have generally avoided major overhauls, the midpoint of Season 2 marks a shift in direction as the team prepares for meaningful adjustments—especially with Ultron joining the battlefield in update 2.5.
Marvel Rivals Adjusts Hero Roles Ahead of Ultron’s Arrival
The upcoming patch brings notable tweaks, particularly for Strategist heroes. Several characters in this role will receive damage buffs to make them more impactful in fights and open up new possibilities for team compositions. The goal is to redistribute responsibilities more evenly across roles while giving Strategists a chance to shine.
In addition to these role-based changes, a few specific heroes will undergo balancing updates:
-
Groot and Captain America will see small reductions in their durability.
-
Spider-Man‘s Amazing Combo will have its damage range slightly reduced.
-
Doctor Strange will benefit from a reduced energy cost for his ultimate.
-
Winter Soldier will get buffs to his Tainted Voltage and Team-Up Ability.
While more adjustments may follow, NetEase is approaching the rebalancing process with caution to avoid overcorrecting.

The team is also responding to community concerns around the Competitive Performance Points (CPP) system. While Duelists have fared relatively well, Vanguards and Strategists have faced inconsistencies in how their contributions are measured. An update is on the way to recalibrate these calculations and create a fairer competitive environment.
“Balancing the game and rank adjustments is a challenging endeavor, and we can’t guarantee perfection 100% of the time,” the team shared. “However, we remain humble and attentive, striving to address issues promptly and enhance your experience.”
