Nexon’s MapleStory Worlds was unveiled today in North and South America. MapleStory Worlds, a game that fosters user created content, is Nexon’s attempt to tap into the massive popularity garnered by games such as Roblox and Fortnite. It allows players to develop their own distinctive worlds and games, utilizing MapleStory assets. Just like Roblox, creators can also earn money from their games.
MapleStory Worlds offers an extensive set of tools for game development, from easy drag-and-drop alternatives to advanced Lua scripting for those who want to dive deeper. Developers can choose from more than 30 million MapleStory assets or even upload their own, providing the creative freedom to make their imaginations come alive, and even generate revenue. There are unlimited possibilities in building immersive worlds, designing unique in-World features, or creating custom avatars.
Although currently available only on PC, Worlds will be accessible on mobile devices in the near future. Following the soft launch, Nexon is hosting two events, MapleJam 24 and Creator Circle, which intend to support creators with cash rewards and marketing benefits.
The logging in experience also resembles that of Roblox:
Only time will tell if MapleStory Worlds becomes a hit, but the idea of creating content using MapleStory resources sounds intriguing. The game’s 2D nature might lead to an interesting mix of challenging player-created jump puzzles.
