Layoffs Reportedly Affect Jackalyptic Games, Jack Emmert’s Studio Developing a New Warhammer MMO

The situation at Jackalyptic Games, the studio led by Jack Emmert and known for its work on a Warhammer 40K MMO, remains unclear. However, a former developer has confirmed that layoffs have taken place. Jacob Beauseigneur, a former senior combat designer, shared on LinkedIn that his departure was due to layoffs and expressed his search for new senior game design roles. While the extent of the layoffs is unknown, LinkedIn activity reveals at least one additional departure: Brian Hagan, the former visual design director. Furthermore, the studio’s job board currently shows no active postings.

This isn’t the first time layoffs have been reported at Jackalyptic. Earlier this year, developers on LinkedIn indicated that Counterplay Games, a partner studio, had closed its doors. Additionally, rumors emerged in February suggesting that NetEase, the parent company of Jackalyptic, was considering selling the studio as part of its broader strategy to divest from overseas ventures. This follows earlier reports of NetEase’s withdrawal from Western markets, including the dismissal of the Seattle-based team supporting Marvel Rivals.
