Last Friday, Rouge Planet Games released a developer’s note outlining their future objectives for PlanetSide 2‘s Directives and shedding light on the mechanics behind the system. The briefing also highlights how the directives encourage new player engagement with the shooter beyond the tutorial phase, by offering an object of focus and appropriate rewards, functioning as what might be best described as an accomplishment system.
The game encompasses long-term directives that are inherently linked with existing gameplay features, enabling players to remember their existence. The ultimate intention is for players to reach these goals at a balanced pace without rushing. Naturally, the final objective is that players who achieve these targets are rewarded accordingly.
Rewards are not awarded retrospectively, so players will need to renounce any rewards for prior achievements once the system is established. The rewards on offer are tier specific, extending from Tier 1 Certs, Title, and Decal to Tier 4 awards such as A Vehicle, Infantry, Weapon or Cosmetic, and a Deluxe Implant Pack. Comprehensive details can be found on the PlanetSide 2 website.
