Electronic Arts (EA) has announced the closure of 7 mobile games next year, on January 29, 2025. The list includes several games from Glu Mobile, which was acquired by EA in 2021 for $2.4 billion (approximately 11.5 billion reais).
The measure aims to end acquired franchises that are not delivering the expected profit.

The affected games include:
- Blood & Glory: Immortals
- Contract Killer: Sniper
- Deer Hunter Classic
- Dino Hunter: Deadly Shores
- Eternity Warriors 4
- Frontline Commando 2
- Frontline Commando: D-Day
These titles were popular in the early 2010s. Unfortunately, the mobile audience nowadays seems to favor either highly advanced or ultra-casual games. As a result, these “middle-ground” games have lost their relevance.
With the forthcoming shutdowns of The Simpsons: Tapped Out and Rory McIlroy PGA Tour also scheduled for January, EA will be putting nine games to an end at the start of 2025.
Acquisitions and discontinuity of games: EA’s pattern
Niccolo De Masi, the former CEO of Glu Mobile, recently discussed the reasons behind the failure of some celebrity games, such as the end of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood on April 18, 2024, after a decade of success on mobile devices.
EA’s strategy of acquiring studios and subsequently discontinuing their franchises has been a long-standing practice, affecting renowned studios like Westwood and Visceral Games. The decision to close Glu Mobile’s titles reinforces EA’s pattern and signals the end of an era for some beloved games in the mobile portfolio.
The future holds fewer mobile games
It’s been a tough year for game enthusiasts, with many games, both old and new, famous and obscure, slated for discontinuation this year and next. We can expect more games to follow suit and face discontinuation in the coming months. And it’s not just EA taking this action; other game studios are also making similar moves.
