Nexon has discreetly launched a time-limited demo for its free-to-play third-person shooter, The First Descendant. The demo, accessible until August 6, allows players to experience the game before the actual launch of the “Breakthrough” season on August 7, on platforms like PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam.
Fusing fast-paced shooting action with MMO-style equipment advancement, The First Descendant sits comfortably with big names like Destiny and Warframe. Since its open-beta release in the previous year, there has been a promise of larger zones and cooperative raids by Nexon. The “Breakthrough” season gives the first glimpse of this vision with an extensive new area, Axion Plains, and an additional character to play.
Main Highlights of the demo
- Nell – a fresh Descendant with crystals as her primary mode of attack and area domination.
- Axion Plains – a huge map designed for unrestricted exploration and intense firefights.
- Legion of Breach – a new opponent faction with creatures such as shield-breaking Abyssal Carapace.
- Hover Bike – a swift vehicle for reducing players’ traversal time across the vast Axion landscape.
- Wall Crasher – a sluggish yet power-packed elite enemy that uses shockwaves and wide AoE attacks.
- Rewards for the demo – After the demo, players can unlock a Spoils Box and Crystallization Catalyst, and additional goodies are up for grabs after August 13 for those who complete Nexon’s feedback survey.
With the full upgrade, Nexon plans to introduce a Colossus field raid, a special Nier: Automata crossing event, and a pre-registration offering where early birds stand a chance to win an Ultimate Descendant Selection Box if there are more than a million sign-ups.
