New Blizzard job posting reignites hopes for a potential StarCraft open-world shooter

Hope for potential StarCraft open-world shooter rekindled with new Blizzard job listing

From the myriad of properties owned by Blizzard, StarCraft appears to be one of the most underutilized. This underuse is regrettable given that the game’s environment could easily translate into various game genres such as an open-world shooter. This example isn’t random; it was mentioned by Blizzard itself in a recent job advertisement on its site.

This job advert is for an associate design director who will assist with an undisclosed “upcoming open-world shooter game.” The ad vaguely hints at the game and refers to David Bowie (strangely enough). Additional listings of interest include a design director, a lead game designer, and designers to build resources of missions, combat, and enemy AI. Notably, none of these job adverts openly state they are for an open-world shooter, only that they are related to an unannounced game.

All these job ads have sparked some hope that a StarCraft shooter, confirmed by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier to be “a project in development,” might be actually progressing. However, it’s worth noting that Blizzard previously attempted this before and had to terminate it after two years of developing. Hopefully, this new push might see the project come to fruition.
