Hi-Rez Ends SMITE Support on Nintendo Switch; Removed from eStore

The ongoing development of SMITE 2 by Titan Forge Games and Hi-Rez Studios has been keeping the multifaceted online battle arena (MOBA) gaming community informed through their regular “Titan Talk” streams. Check out the latest episode below for an update on the recent balance changes and those in the pipeline. Additionally, the team has unveiled their ambitious plan to introduce a new god every week.

However, it’s not all rosy. Today brought some unfortunate news for those who play the original SMITE on their Nintendo Switch. The MOBA made its Switch debut when it was released there in 2019, bafflingly though, it appears it failed to live up to Hi-Rez’s “standards”, a surprising revelation given that it’s been on the platform for close to six years.

Consequently, Hi-Rez will cease its support for the game on Switch. As such, it’s no longer available on the Nintendo eShop and will officially shut down on May 1st. Players who engage with SMITE on other platforms can let out a sigh of relief. Titan Forge has sought to alleviate some of these concerns by suggesting Switch players to link their accounts from other platforms to ensure they can continue playing once Switch support is withdrawn.

This move, according to a blog post on the subject, will allow for better utilization of resources to support SMITE across all other platforms. It reads, “Though not an easy decision or one we took lightly, and despite the concern for our community, it became clear that the performance of our Switch port was subpar. By ending support for the platform, we can better serve our players, offer superior support, and have more flexibility in rolling out updates.”

If you’re interested in playing SMITE on the go, you could give your Steam Deck or another handheld PC device a try.
