Less than a fortnight remains until the next episode release for Destiny 2. For this reason, the developers at Bungie are keen to give hints and previews regarding their forthcoming series of dev blogs, particularly on changes to player-vs-player (PvP) activities, armour, weapons, and even the timings of content release.
We’ll kick off with the teasers from the weekly newsletter and the altered content release cadence: namely, Heresy is reverting to a weekly schedule for gameplay and story missions, as opposed to the previous “all at once” launch strategy. The developers at Bungie state that the “vast majority” of activities will be accessible right from the beginning of the episode’s first act, also revealing that weekly updates will introduce amendments to activities based on the weekly story and fresh seasonal challenges, including new grades of seasonal weapons each week. The duration of acts will also see a shift from being fixed to a variable length.
“We’re striving for the perfect medium between having everything available at the beginning of an Act versus giving players a valid reason to continue to log in throughout the Episode,” Bungie explains. “Our aim is to push forward a compelling and enthralling story that embodies an epilogue to the Light and Darkness narrative, and lays the groundwork for what’s in store when the Codename: Frontiers is launched later this year.”
The rest of the week’s newsletter offers an in-depth review of updates to weapons and armour, detailing alterations to gear perks and particular exotic items, as well as previewing some of the new weapons set to be earned from PvE activities – and the items destined to be sent to the vault.
For PvP updates in Heresy, the central focus is revisions to the Trials of Osiris mode. The post gets somewhat detailed, but the chief aim is to enhance activity rewards, simplify matchmaking, and stimulate players to battle each other before focusing on capturing zones. The post also discusses alterations to the SR rating, ranked points, and changes to the PvP playlist while giving a preview of the weapons that players can win from PvP modes.
