CUBE Revamps MMORPG Shooters, Insights from Recent Interview

We have received some exciting updates about The CUBE, courtesy of an interview featured on WCCF TECH.

If you haven’t heard, The CUBE is an upcoming hybrid of MMORPG and shooter, developed by Mundfish, the creators of Atomic Heart. This new title is a spin-off that takes place after the events of the original game. While details on whether it will be free-to-play are still unclear, we remain hopeful.

According to CEO Robert Bagratuni, the game began as a simple sketch and has transformed into a dynamic, shifting universe — quite literally. Utilizing a patent-pending “split-rendering” technology, the game allows thousands of tiles to rotate and shift in real-time, altering gravity and movement as you engage with it. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, this innovation ensures everything remains in sync, making the environment integral to gameplay (rather than just a visual backdrop).

Rather than adhering to static quest hubs or tedious grinding for levels, players will engage in co-op missions, dynamic events, and potentially PvP. The game features persistent progression, gear upgrades, and dungeon-like zones that offer increasing levels of risk and reward, reminiscent of Diablo or Destiny.

The business model is still in development, but Mundfish is committed to a “player-first” strategy. Open testing is on the horizon, paired with a comprehensive post-launch roadmap that includes new quests, narrative content, and world updates. Moreover, players will have a significant role in shaping the game world as they progress.
