Last month, City of Heroes Homecoming emerged from a long content drought with news of a significant patch that quickly sparked controversy. As of today, that patch – Issue 28: Legacy, Page 2 – has officially transitioned from the test servers to the live servers for this officially licensed version of the classic superhero MMORPG.
As highlighted in May, the update features a major overhaul of the Kallisti Wharf zone, expanding it into a level 40-50 co-op zone. This extensive update integrates seamlessly into the broader game, introducing new mobs, a new enemy group, fresh music, the P.E.A.C.E. Keeper giant monster event, and a plethora of repeatable missions and lengthy story arcs focusing on the Freaklok, the Skulls/Family conflict, the Warriors, and the Council.
Fans of character customization will be excited about the new Pyrotechnic Control set for Controllers and Dominators, the Psionic Armor set for melee archetypes, Regeneration now available to Tankers, and a much-anticipated revamp of sleep mechanics that introduces stacking and a more persistent “deep sleep” effect.
While the update brings many improvements, some nerfs have made it through beta testing, including reductions to Tanker damage, a significant nerf to Radiation Armor, and partial adjustments to controversial Controller nerfs previously discussed, such as the impact on Plant Control. However, players utilizing Dark Armor, Electric Armor, and Staff Fighters are likely to be satisfied with the changes.
