Blockchain MMO EVE Frontier hires a real-world economist to help refine its in-game economy

Blockchain MMO EVE Frontier Brings On Real-World Economist to Enhance In-Game Economy

EVE Frontier, the “hardcore” survival space MMO that CCP says can’t possibly do what it does without being on the blockchain, is apparently taking its in-game economy extremely seriously. CCP Games has gone so far as to hire a former real-world economist to help “[build] a truly open financial system within a virtual world.”

Meet Stefán Pórarinsson, the blockchain MMO’s new head of economy. A former economist for the Central Bank of Iceland, Pórarinsson’s expertise is being used to carefully manage Frontier’s economy. Initial efforts focus on pricing, supply and demand, “the integration of digital assets and their impact on in-game economic activity,” and players’ decision-making. These adjustments are being implemented through the game’s current paid-for founder’s access.

While the impact on actual gameplay remains unclear, Pórarinsson appears to be in the data collection phase of his work. Meanwhile, CCP is eager to promote the idea that this new hire will bridge digital and real-world economies.
