Blizzard Hiring for Potential Open-World StarCraft Shooter Game

Blizzard is recruiting for a new game project according to recent job postings. Several openings can currently be found on the company’s employment webpage, some of which point to a potential “upcoming open-world shooter game”. One such position involves the role of an Associate Design Director. There is increased discussion in the industry about whether this could indicate a possible revisit to the concept of a StarCraft shooter by the developer.

It was revealed in September during the promotion of Jason Schreier’s book Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, that an unnamed StarCraft shooter project was once on the cards. This is in addition to the previous two unsuccessful StarCraft shooter projects. Given the unending allure of the shooter genre and the unbroken affinity of Blizzard fans to the StarCraft universe, yet another attempt would not seem too surprising. Microsoft’s recent intention to leverage Blizzard’s broad range of IPs also adds credibility to this possibility, assuming they can pull it off successfully.

The gaming community has been buzzing with speculation since this news broke. And now there’s even more fodder for these conjectures. Of course, Blizzard might be developing a shooter game based on one of its other IPs – there are quite a few to pick from.
