Clockwork Labs’ community-driven sandbox MMO, BitCraft, has received an update focused on improving the open-world dungeon experience. The goal is to shift the focus from a “race” for last-hit credit to a more collaborative adventure. Dynamic boss scaling and a new contribution-based loot system have been implemented to address issues where large groups could easily defeat bosses, leaving lower-damage players without rewards.
These changes come after the game’s recent “version 1” dungeon update revealed areas for improvement during community testing. Clockwork Labs plans to monitor the performance of the new system before moving on to enhancements for hunting, sailing, and hauling mechanics.
Key Changes in Latest Update:
- Boss scaling: The Feral Sentinel now gains flat damage reduction based on the number of players participating, increasing fight duration without impacting XP or contribution values.
- Non-weighted loot thresholds: Loot rolls are earned by reaching predetermined contribution levels instead of competing for dealing the most damage, alleviating “kill-steal” concerns.
- No passive regen in combat: Both players and enemies now cease health regeneration upon entering combat, preventing exploitation during extended encounters.
- Room locks: Dungeon portals remain locked until all enemies in the current room are defeated, discouraging players from rushing directly to the boss.
- Camera and visual polish: Improvements such as wall-collision adjustments, reduced bloom effects, and fixes for floor z-fighting enhance visual clarity.
- Crafting and UI fixes: Resolved issues with recipe inputs, inventory UI glitches, and intermittent animation freezes.
- New content: VFX upgrades for all combat actions and the addition of tier 7-10 food items expand late-game possibilities.
While BitCraft is still in early development, its open-world nature means that every balance adjustment can influence the social dynamics of player towns and trade routes. The game is currently priced at $29.99 on Steam, but it will transition to a free-to-play model upon its official launch.
