Get ready to jog your memory back to last November. Recall how the naval survival MMO Age of Water announced a release only to promptly retract it due to a Steam technical hiccup. Now, this week’s update isn’t a mistake and does shift the game from the early access stage to its official launch. However, if you’re not paying close attention, you could overlook that detail.
Labeled as Beyond the Waves, this update rolls out plenty of new content including 10 novel land combat zones, tier six weaponry (complete with rocket launchers), a brand new world boss and more.
“New team-based PvP mode, Control Points, has been added in the update where players band together to capture and safeguard strategically pivotal locations dispersed within the waters. Further, intense challenges lie in wait in five perilous zones, each protected by supremely powerful bosses of varying difficulty levels. In addition, get ready to delve into compelling tales in a fresh quest line. Also, your team will get an extra member.”
The game’s launch is somewhat obscured within the copious patch notes. It’s only mentioned at the very end as, “Shortly following the Beyond the Waves update, we’ll wind down the Early Access period and unveil the final version of Age of Water.” Unsurprisingly, Steam now shows the game as a complete launch.
As we’ve been reporting since its early access debut in April 2024, Three Whales Studio’s Age of Water under the Gaijin Entertainment publishing brand has constantly been churning updates. However, its player count remains disconcertingly low. Currently, the game is available for 15 dollars on Steam.
