I’m aware that Annapurna Interactive, Annapurna’s gaming publishing branch, isn’t a significant player in the multiplayer gaming world. However, the recent development is so unusual that I had to share it with you. More so, being a fan of Control and Alan Wake by Remedy, I’m highly interested in their most recent partnership with Annapurna.
Jason Schreier of Bloomberg has reported that every member of Annapurna Interactive’s staff has resigned.
You heard it right.
To give some context, Annapurna Interactive was engaged in negotiations with Annapurna’s owner, Megan Ellison, to be spun off into a separate business entity. When Ellison stepped away from the talks, Nathan Gary, Annapurna Interactive’s president, along with other executives and nearly 24 employees, resigned.
“Our foremost concern is to provide continuous support to our developers and publishing partners during this transition,” Ellison told Bloomberg News. “We’re dedicated not only to our existing games but also to broadening our footprint in the gaming industry as we look for ways to integrate linear and interactive narratives across film, TV, gaming, and theater.”
While firms under active contracts with Annapurna Interactive are somewhat frazzled, Annapurna is working to alleviate worries. Reportedly, returning co-founder Hector Sanchez has reassured developers by stating that the company will honor all existing contracts and hire new employees.
Observing how the company will handle funding, quality assurance, and other publishing responsibilities will indeed be interesting.
