Early access for the most recent expansion of Final Fantasy XIV began today, resulting in a huge surge in the game’s playerbase on Steam. The single-day peak reached 91,883, almost equalling its record high from the covid period of 95,102. Note that these numbers represent Steam users alone, as the game can also be accessed through its own client off Steam.
Only those who pre-ordered the newest expansion have access to the early release, others will begin playing from July 2 onwards. Similar to past expansions, severe congestion is observed across all major datacenters which could lead to long wait times for players attempting to log into the game.
