Life within the fanbase of Helldivers 2 has not been particularly sunny, as the co-op shooter’s latest patches have introduced more problems than they’ve fixed in terms of performance, bugs, and crashes, which in turn have helped to bring its Steam user score down to mixed. Arrowhead has not been oblivious to this blowback and has put out a state of the game address that resolves to do better in terms of both quality control and communication.
“We’ve seen the feedback across Discord, forums, Reddit and our dashboards. You’ve been loud, clear, and absolutely right to expect better,” the post opens. “We also recognise that our recent updates haven’t hit the mark, and our silence hasn’t helped. That’s on us.”
As for what’s being done about the current situation, the studio points to a mid-October update that promises to chip away at key crash fixes, apply some minor performance improvements, bring “long overdue” bug fixes, and halt unintended things like drop pods landing on caves. The devs also promise a major balance patch that will “[unleash] Niklas & Lennart.” With all of that said, the post also points out that these matters will not be turned around quickly, so Arrowhead is also working on a bigger development plan aimed at addressing issues.
Finally, the post acknowledges that communication from the devs has been lacking overall, so fans can expect the studio to “share more about the processes, performance and how we got here, plus further improvements and evolution”; expect another dev blog sometime next week that will begin this more open discourse.
