Zenless Zone Zero, HoYoverse’s urban-fantasy action RPG, known for its roguelike combat in a neon-lit dystopia, is preparing for its Version 2.2 patch on September 4. This update, titled “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night,” introduces the Defense Force’s Obol Squad and delves deeper into the political complexities surrounding New Eridu’s Waifei Peninsula.
Following Version 2.0’s Exaltist arc, this patch addresses the aftermath of that conflict. The roster expands with two new S-Rank agents, Seed and Orphie & Magus, along with a new Bangboo support unit.
Main additions in Version 2.2
- Obol Squad debut: Seed (Electric Attack) uses a custom mecha for consistent damage, while Orphie & Magus (Fire Attack) excel at providing laser-based team buffs that bypass enemy defenses.
- New Bangboo: Mercury, an S-Rank support unit that enters battle in a tank.
- Returning characters: Trigger (Electric Stun) and Evelyn (Fire Attack) return to the banner rotation.
- Band of Brave Bangboo: A tower-defense event featuring new terrain challenges. Completing stages unlocks the A-Rank Excaliboo companion.
- Rhythm Rave: A rhythm-based mini-game based on the game’s soundtrack for bonus rewards.
- Quality-of-life tweaks: Players can now choose Belle or Wise before initiating companion events, along with several smaller UI improvements.
Zenless Zone Zero is available on PC, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android. While optimized for mobile, the PC and console versions offer a high-quality experience. As with previous HoYoverse games, the production values are exceptional.
