Aion 2 Will Be Less Pay-To-Win Than Lineage, According To Interview

Aion 2 Set for November Launch in Korea, Global Release Expected Mid-2026

Last week, NCSoft officially announced a livestream event dedicated to Aion 2, scheduled for May 29 at 8 PM KST (or 7 AM for Western audiences). But ahead of this broadcast, the studio is already offering a deeper look into its highly anticipated MMORPG through interviews and sneak peeks.

One of the standout moments came during an interview with NCSoft’s CEO, later detailed in a YouTube video by Kanon. In it, the company’s leadership shed light on what fans can expect—not only from gameplay but also from the game’s business model.

New Strategy and Revenue Goals Place Aion 2 at the Heart of NCSoft’s 2025 Plans

According to the CEO, Aion 2 is projected to generate 25% to 33% of the revenue earned by titles like Lineage 2M and Lineage W in Korea. A major reason? Unlike the Lineage games, Aion 2 is PC-exclusive, foregoing the mobile market that typically boosts earnings. But this isn’t necessarily a drawback—instead, it signals a shift in philosophy.

“We are taking a different monetization approach with Aion 2, one that reflects its PC-only nature,” the CEO stated, suggesting a less aggressive model compared to the mobile-focused Lineage series.

Aion 2, as revealed, aims to capture the essence of classic MMORPGs while introducing modern systems and a global vision. While Korean players can expect the game’s launch in November 2025, international fans will need to wait until mid-2026 for the global release.

With a bold direction and revised monetization, Aion 2 is shaping up to be a fresh start for the franchise—one that could bring back old fans and attract a new generation of PC MMO players.
