Recently, the idea of returning to Star Wars: The Old Republic found its way back to me, though the reasoning remains a mystery. It’s been over a year since my last consistent engagement with the game, yet for some reason, I felt the pull towards it once again. Here, I reflect on the condition of the game as of March 2025.
The game is currently witnessing the slowest remaster in history, with a gradual upgrading process revealing improved world textures reminiscent of the latest zones – a significant step up from the old ones. Character modernization is just around the corner, promising enhanced lighting effects and skin tones for our SWTOR heroes. Early sightings suggest aged character appearances, but subsequent tinkering may remedy this issue. With UI updates already implemented, it indicates a gradual rollout of updates that together could potentially create a substantial impact. However, in customary Star Wars: The Old Republic fashion, this process moves at a leisurely pace.
Speaking of pacing, the release of story content appears to continue at the sluggish tempo that prevailed when I last engaged with the game. Although I haven’t made much progress with the latest chapter on my primary Sith Warrior, it seems that a single chapter has been introduced since my last playthrough. This saddens but does not surprise me, as it aligns with the slow pace of content delivery to which I’ve grown accustomed.
The process of obtaining gear appears to have become smoother. Green gear is now readily available and can be upgraded through Conquest activities. Blue gear currency and upgrades can be found in Flashpoint content, and the best purple gear can be acquired via Raids or Ops, along with respective currency for upgrades. The current system is easier to comprehend and employ than what I recall from my most recent engagement. However, it falls short of the erstwhile system just a few years back when superior gear was less challenging to procure for both mains and alternate characters. Ah, for those good old days.
Unsurprisingly, the marketplace is brimming with fresh inclusions that weren’t there when I last played. While I comprehend the company’s need for revenue, a more content-driven approach might lead to an increased number of paying players rather than the current strategy of offering a steady drip of new content. But it’s hardly as if my lamentations are anything new.
Regardless, SWTOR continues to provide the immersive online Star Wars experience that many of us seek. The game delivers a power fantasy that allows you to step into the shoes of a Jedi, Sith, Bounty Hunter, or Trooper, all while remaining a tab-target MMO that has weathered the years quite impressively. The intrigue remains as to what the next month’s subscription will offer – whether< a title="LOTRO Game Page" href="https://www.mmobomb.com/review/lotro">Lord of the Rings Online continues to be my top-tier MMORPG. Only time will tell. What keeps me interested are the forthcoming character and zone updates, while the promise of new content looms large. Yet, it remains to be seen what the future holds. I harbor no illusions about fresh story updates during my month’s subscription, but the anticipation of new content could be compelling enough to keep me invested. Or perhaps, in a fitting twist, I’ll sporadically subscribe to the game at the same steady drip that content is delivered. It’s only fair, is it not?
