Arc Games in collaboration with Chief Rebel—comprising veterans from World of Warcraft, Diablo IV, and Helldivers 2—is announcing a public playtest of their MODA (multiplayer online dungeon adventure) game titled Fellowship during Steam Next Fest (February 24–March 3). This will provide the first opportunity for PC players to experience the game’s fast-paced, team-centric dungeon runs prior to its Early Access launch in 2025.
Playtest Key Information
- Time Frame: 10 AM PT, February 24–March 3.
- Servers Available: North America, Europe, Asia.
- Added Features: Introduction of six heroes (including DPS Tariq), gem crafting, mounts, and improved mechanics based on August 2024 alpha feedback.
- Dungeon Gameplay: Options for Ranked (featuring competitive leaderboards) and Quick Play (casual runs, 10–15 minutes).
Gameplay Summary
Fellowship combines MMO trinity roles (tank/healer/DPS) with MOBA-based ability kits focusing purely on PvE challenges. Four-member teams fight in infinitely scaling dungeons that include:
- Sophisticated Boss Mechanics: Enemy evolution along with difficulty levels, showcasing new attack sequences and modifiers.
- Progression Via Loot: Gear and gems boost hero power after each run, with rewards proportional to dungeon level.
- No Grind Blockers: Forego the grind—immediate access to endgame-style dungeons, a deviation from traditional MMOs.
Studio Mission & Background
Established in 2018, Chief Rebel set out to reimagine MOBAs as cooperative PvE events. CEO Axel Lindberg explains, “Our idea was to create the excitement of MMO endgame raids—minus the lengthy prep.” The team’s August 2024 closed alpha fine-tuned systems such as curses (dungeon modifiers) and ascensions (difficulty levels), which are now further developed for the public test.
While live-service PvE games like Destiny 2 and Warframe are popular, Fellowship is poised to create its own space, focusing on immediate action and dispensing with grind. Its MOBA-styled construct—approachable yet sophisticated—might find favor with a wider MMO demographic, such as WoW veterans seeking compact challenges.
The globe-spanning servers and leaderboards of the playtest emphasize competitive replayability—an astute gamble in a market eager for novel co-op experiences.
Add Fellowship to your Steam wishlist and participate in the test beginning February 24.
Chief Rebel’s future hinges on finely balancing depth and accessibility as it gears up for Late 2025 Early Access. This is a challenge they seem well-prepared for, given their veteran background.
