2025: Microsoft’s Second Round of Layoffs

Microsoft has reportedly implemented further layoffs, as revealed in an article published today. The news initially appeared on Business Insider and later disseminated by Video Games Chronicle, but it doesn’t disclose the total count of individuals affected by the workforce reduction. Instead, a statement suggests that the layoffs, although “small in number”, spanned multiple divisions such as security, sales, and gaming.

These layoffs mark the second occurrence in 2025, with the firm confirming a reduction in its workforce on January 8. The layoffs from the previous week were seemingly performance-related, primarily targeting individuals deemed as underperformers by the company.

In light of this news, it’s worth highlighting that Xbox had undergone a significant layoff, impacting 650 employees, along with several other reductions that affected a number of Microsoft’s game studios in 2024.

Our thoughts are with all those affected, and we hope they find new opportunities swiftly.
