It’s safe to say that no one is a fan of exchanging more money for the same value. That being said, players in Australia and New Zealand are far from pleased with the rising costs of playing World of Warcraft. The monthly subscription for the game will increase to $23.95 AUD and $26.99 NZD starting from February 7th, 2025. However, current subscribers will continue to enjoy the legacy pricing until August 6th.
Presently, $23.95 AUD and $26.99 NZD equate to around $14.88 USD and $15.13 USD respectively. Although this might sound fair, some users on a Reddit thread have voiced their discontent. They highlight how Blizzard, in the past, hasn’t reduced the price as the value of local currency increases against the dollar. Furthermore, Blizzard’s pricing doesn’t reflect the difference in cost of living or wages between Australia/New Zealand and the US. Thus, despite almost no change in price on a global scale, gamers in these countries are having to shell out more for the same game, which is understandably frustrating.
