Quite a while has elapsed since I last penned down anything related to Snail Games. Of late, they’ve made appearances in articles concerning the Ark series of games, and even there, they only feature as the game publisher. There was a time when they commanded a noteworthy presence all over the MMO arena with games such as Age of Wushu, Black Gold Online, alongside several mobile video games. Some of these titles remain in existence today, although we seldom hear about them, while others have faded into oblivion. Snail has a list of single-player games to their credit, but as they lack multiplayer, they typically aren’t our focus.
I was pleasantly surprised today, upon receiving an update from the team about an upcoming survival MMO project titled “For the Stars.” When Snail unveiled their plan for a 4x action survival game about 4 months ago, I’d broken the news about the game. Today we get to see new pieces of information in a developer video from the team.
This first development diary video gives us a glimpse into the lives of Game Director Primus Majda, Lead Designers Matt Kohl and Calix Reneau, and Art Director Andrew Swihart, exploring character art in For the Stars, discussing the game’s procedurally generated planets, and showing early gameplay and concept art.
The conversation revolves around exploration, building, and even transformation (or destruction) of planets according to player preference. This sounds familiar, something like another game we’ve been covering recently, and could be a compelling rivalry.
“For The Stars has long been a dream project for us, and we are thrilled to now be sharing publicly the process of its creation,” states Primus Majda, the Game Director for For the Stars. “Above all, we can’t wait to see players start their own cosmic voyages once For the Stars rolls out.”
Although the launch date of For the Stars remains unknown, the game now boasts a Steam page, with plans to also be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. And yes, the game will indeed be multiplayer.
