Recent DLC release, Frostline, of the DayZ survival game has not been received favorably by players. The last 700 reviews are mostly negative, primarily criticizing the $27 US price point for the DLC, which only includes a single map. Some players even claimed the map appears to be a rescaled adaptation of the Arma II map ‘Tanoa’.
However, not all reviews are adverse. Some players have appreciated the improved gaming experience on the servers and the new content that caters to hardcore survival gamers.
Due to this wave of negative feedback, Marek Spanel from Bohemia Interactive tweeted about the situation. He pointed out that on average, players spend $30 USD and play for 188 hours, ensuring the company makes less than 10 cents per hour of live online gaming. Reacting to a player’s comment, he added no one is compelled to purchase Dayz Frostline, with the base game remaining available to all.

Sure, and that makes sense if you feel that way. I, for one, consider Sakhal to be a beautifully crafted environment with cool mechanics.
But nobody is forcing anyone to buy Dayz Frostline; the base game is still running for all users.

Certainly, players may choose not to invest in new content and continue enjoying the base game. Yet, it remains unclear what impact this will have in the long term.
