It is common practice for the global version of MapleStory to mimic events and updates from its Korean counterpart. Despite this, the global version diverged from the Korean version quite some time ago. This remains evident in the latest update – known as The Dark Ride – which introduces a unique event that lends its name to the patch.
The Dark Ride: Ride or Die event presents players with battles against six bosses every week. Players have the option to select from three levels of difficulty, a variety of challenge modifiers, and a total pool of 20 lives for each week. The goal is to win the weekly boss fights and earn points, which can be increased by choosing higher difficulty levels, implementing more challenge modifiers, and saving as many lives as possible. Higher scores lead to greater rewards such as coupons, buff items, and coins for in-game purchases. Even participation comes with a selection of cosmetic items.
In the realm of events, the update also kick-starts the Page of Memories event quests. This allows players to unravel the background stories of the Black Mage’s commanders at the Dimensional Library and win a variety of rewards like cosmetics, cosmic cubes, and potions. More burning events and Sunday login rewards from now until February 9th are also featured in the patch.
Another key aspect of the update is the redesign of classes. The Aran and Shade classes have received “redux” overhauls to adjust their abilities and add new skills to each class’s six jobs. Several existing classes have also been treated to balance changes and skill updates.
Additional noteworthy aspects of this update include UI and experience earnings adjustments for leveling up, a new Maple Planner for tracking repeatable tasks, new UI options to better view buffs, several updates to guild castle activities and epic dungeons. This large-scale patch demands players to digest all the nitty-gritties articulated in the patch notes.
