Once more, it’s that season. The Game Awards have unveiled their 2024 nominees list. As predicted, the majority of the nominations are single-player games. However, multiplayer games have sneakily made their way into some categories, with several categories designed specifically for these types of games.
The multiplayer games truly sparkle in categories such as “Best Ongoing Game”, “Best Community Support”, and the very obvious “Best Multiplayer”. Some perennial favourites show up, like Final Fantasy XIV, featured in both Best Ongoing Game and Best Community Support (although, it’s a tough choice with Baldur’s Gate 3 also in the race). Fortnite and Helldivers 2 are contenders in these categories too, making it an intense competition.
Destiny 2 and Diablo 4 have also received nominations for the Best Ongoing Game, with No Man’s Sky completing the Best Community Support category.
For the Best Multiplayer award, Helldivers 2 is nominated once more. Other contenders include Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Tekken 8.
Even though it’s not a multiplayer game in the traditional sense, I’m thrilled to see Wuthering Waves receive a nomination, albeit in the mobile category. My hopes are high for the game to eventually find its way to PlayStation. The full list of categories and nominees can be found at The Game Awards’ official website.
