While Bungie continues the development of their next PvP extraction shooter, Marathon, they are still determining their next moves. This includes addressing the inevitable issue of the game’s monetization strategy. As is common knowledge, a large number of shooters opt for a free-to-play format that includes cosmetics, loot boxes, and other purchasable extras. However, it’s worth mentioning that not all follow this structure.
When it comes to Marathon, it appears that Bungie might be considering a $40 pay-to-play scheme instead. This development has been shared by The Game Post, who cite it from “several sources”. The report doesn’t disclose whether the box price will be the solitary expense for players, or if there will be additional charges for usual game extras. Notwithstanding, the box price condition could be subject to change, particularly after Concord’s unsuccessful launch. That being said, the issue wasn’t solely the initial payment aspect. A number of gamers are not against paying a box price if the game proves to be worth the cost.
